this is legit btw
I mean, there were folkloric heroes like Robin Hood before the Scarlet Pimpernel, but they didn’t really do the secret identity — people might not have known Robin Hood’s real identity but he wasn’t out living a double life and his costume was just what he and his buds wore in the forest, whereas the Pimpernel was actually doing the exact same thing as Bruce Wayne (pampered aristocrat by day, avenging hero by night)
also I wanna point out that the Scarlet Pimpernel was actually the leader of a league of twenty people also living double lives — Baroness Orczy also invented the first superhero team
Also The Scarlet Pimpernel is goddamned amazing and if you’ve never read it you’re missing out.
i want to take a moment to talk about the movie ‘khumba' because i just noticed its been added to netflix
EVERYONE NEEDS TO CHECK OUT THIS MOVIE!! i watched it a few months ago and i loved it, here’s the synopsis
Rejected by his superstitious herd, a half-striped zebra embarks on a daring quest to earn his stripes but finds the courage and self-acceptance to save all the animals of the Great Karoo
some cool stuff about this movie
- the studio behind this movie is triggerfish animation, based in cape town south africa. it’s a pretty new studio, they did that movie ‘adventures in zambezia’ in 2012 (the one with the birds) i think it’s awesome to see a movie made in the same place it’s set
- it’s BEAUTIFULLY animated and the art direction is pretty good too especially considering it wasn’t made by any big name studios. the character designs are more interesting and varied than a lot of cgi animated stuff disney has put out i’ll say that
- the movie was inspired by and dedicated to the quagga project, which was an effort to save the quagga (which looks kinda like a half striped zebra) from extinction
the cast is really impressive for a 20 million budget movie too btw
CHECK KHUMBA OUT ON NETFLIX!!! REALLY WORTH A WATCH
story of my life
animaniacs was ahead of its time
I have to remind myself and the angry fandom side of tumblr about this periodically or this damn website might implode
FUN STORY TIME
Warner Bros. Animation studios was one of the first, if not the first, major media producers to be introduced to, and subsequently effected by, internet “nerd” culture.
Tiny Toon Adventures was on television around the time the internet started to gain popularity, and Warner Bros. found themselves the unwilling targets of various letters and emails from several people in the furry fandom (which, before this point, had been mostly unheard of), requesting naked pictures of Babs Bunny and other characters. One dude in particular sent scores of letters to Tress MacNielle, Babs’ voice actress, describing sexual acts that he wanted to do to the characters she voiced. It became such a problem that Tress began cancelling appearances and soon lost interest in working on Tiny Toons altogether. The show was canceled not long after that.
The man who continually harassed Tress became the inspiration and base model for the “obsessed internet nerd” trope character that would appear at the end of the final episode of Tiny Toons (as “the most frightening thing in the world”), as well as in future shows, such as Animaniacs.
The first show to be ruined because of the internet… Sad.
Fandoms, remember this tragic tale before you send messages to shows, whether they’re full of love, lust, or rage. You might end up wrecking everything for the rest of us.
PSA - PLEASE READ AND SPREAD HE WORD!!!
IF YOU SEE THIS PLANT AT ALL, DO NOT TOUCH IT!!!
Giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) is an invasive herb in the carrot family which was originally brought to North America from Asia and has since become established in the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Northwest regions of the United States. Giant hogweed grows along streams and rivers and in fields, forests, yards and roadsides, and a giant hogweed plant can reach 14 feet or more in height with compound leaves up to 5 feet in width.Giant Hogweed sap contains toxic chemicals known as Furanocoumarins. When these chemicals come into contact with the skin and are exposed to sunlight, they cause a condition called Phytophotodermatitis, a reddening of the skin often followed by severe blistering and burns. These injuries can last for several months, and even after they have subsided the affected areas of skin can remain sensitive to light for years. Furanocoumarins are also carcinogenic and teratogenic, meaning they can cause cancer and birth defects. The sap can also cause temporary (or even permanent) blindness if introduced into the eyes.
If someone comes into physical contact with Giant Hogweed, the following steps should be taken:
If a reaction occurs, the early application of topical steroids may lessen the severity of the reaction and ease the discomfort. The affected area of skin may remain sensitive to sunlight for a few years, so applying sun block and keeping the affected area shielded from the sun whenever possible are sensible precautions
- Wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and COLD water as soon as possible.
- Keep the exposed area away from sunlight for 48 hours.
- If Hogweed sap gets into the eyes, rinse them with water and wear sunglasses.
- See a doctor if any sign of reaction sets in.PLEASE, DO NOT JUST READ AND SCROLL! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND POTENTIALLY LIFE-SAVING INFORMATION!!!
Extra note: if you live in Oregon, New Jersey, Michigan or New York and see one of these, call your state’s department of agriculture to report it, and trained professionals will come kill it before it can produce seeds and spread.
Frankly, if you see one in general, probably call your DOA and see if there’s a program in place.
Do not burn it, because the smoke will give you the same reaction.
If for some ungodly reason there isn’t a professional who can handle it for you (and please, please use a professional), the DOA of New York has [this guide] for how to deal with it yourself.
OH MY FUCK I HAVE THESE IN MY BACKYARD.
Okay,I went to search for information to see if this post was true.Yup…it is.
also, reblogging for those american, spanish, new zealand, canada and other countries that have this invasive plant.
Guys/gals,for the sake of your skin don’t touch it.Yes,it is hazardous.
also:When post like these apear, please go to the internet and search if the information is real.Don’t rush into reblogging post like these without searching if the information is real.
I had the bottom ones in my old backyard… Thank goodness I moved.
To me a “true fan” is someone who loves something enough that they can poke fun at it and point out it’s flaws, but love it regardless.
Maybe. CN did have “Get Animated” years ago and I don’t remember the general reaction to it. I can recall myself being pretty sick of it the long it went on, so you’re probably right.
Again, it might just be that anything with even the slightest “CN>Nick” theme sets me off. Being the minority opinion gets to you sometimes.
lol Okay. XD No idea what’s going on but it grabbed my attention. Wonder who she’s aiming at.
Started off sexy, then it got weird. XD
